When the log home is not properly maintained with the right preservative, logs will begin to rot.
Common areas will be where logs are repeatedly exposed to water:
- behind gas tanks
- where decks connects to the house
- poor roof overhangs
- dormers when there is a roof below it
- top of deck posts
- decks close to the ground
We find that if caught early enough, the rotten part of the wood can be removed. The area can then be covered with the right piece of log siding/log end.
A trick to know how deep the rot is, you can insert the blade of a pocket knife. Pinch the blade where it meets the wood and remove the blade- the area beyond where you pinched is how deep the rot is.
If you would like an estimate, you can email or send us via regular mail pictures of the areas in question. We can attempt to provide you with our best estimate of what it would cost. The cost will depend on the amount of time and the materials required to make the repair.
